MALE INFERTILITY - NATURAL AND ALTERNATIVE REMEDIES

Semenax

As discussed in the article on male infertility, more than one factor is implicated in male infertility. Many of the causes of male infertility can be addressed by the use of herbs and vitamins found in natural products. Few men receive the essential vitamins and minerals needed for reproductive health.

Semenax is a proprietary herbal remedy that has been formulated, the manufacturers say, to increase semen production as well as having other effects such as more intense male orgasms and overall improved sexual function and response.

The remedy uses various proportions of:

  • Avena sativa extract, a botanical extract that has traditionally been used to increase strength, mind, spirit and body. References to the stimulating effects of Avena sativa have been found up to 200 years ago in the German Pharmacopoeia. Modern studies at the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality have shown that avena sativa aids sexual arousal.
  • Catuaba ( Erythroxylum catuaba )bark, a Brazilian herb that strengthens the libido, and nourishes the entire male reproductive system.
  • Hawthorne - contain powerful antioxidants and natural bioflavonoids that support the health of the entire cardiovascular system. This herb can actually help regulate both high and low blood pressure, in addition to slowly breaking down cholesterol and fat deposits in the body.
  • Horny goat weed (Epimedium sagittatum), boosts libido and testosterone levels for greater sperm production.
  • L-Arginine HCL. The proprietors claim studies show sperm and semen volume doubles, fertility improves (even among men with low sperm counts or poor sperm motility), and sperm health and activity increase with supplementation. It supports cardiovascular health and is involved in the build up of protein.
  • L-Carnitine transfers long-chain fatty acids, such as triglycerides into mitochondria (a cell's energy powerhouse), where they may be oxidized to produce energy. It is also used for increasing energy and improving resistance to muscle fatigue. Studies conducted on L-carnitine since as early as 1937 yielded positive results suggesting that the body's cardiovascular system can greatly benefit from its intake. There are a variety of published studies that suggest L-carnitine is useful in increasing the heart's output and improving its functioning, as well as stimulating the heart's energy supply and supporting cardiac performance. The makers of Seminax say this amino acid is found in high concentrations in healthy sperm and is proven to significantly increase the percentage of highly motile sperm.
  • L-Lysine, an essential amino acid which it is claimed researchers have found, together with zinc, increases sperm produced, stimulates testosterone production, and improves semen quality.
  • Maca, a vegetable root or tuber, related to the potato family, which grows in the high Andean plateaus of Peru at altitudes as high as 14,500 feet above sea level. It has been reported that scientist Gustavo Gonzales, who led what is described as the world's first study into Maca's effect on human sexual function and natural infertility treatments, told a news conference: "the three month trial involving 12 volunteer men pointed to an 180 to 200 percent lift in sperm count and semen production and a great increase in libido and sexual performance."
  • Muira Puama, a Brazilian herb also referred to as murapuama, is mostly known for its effective help with erectile dysfunction and increasing libido and as an aphrodisiac - but is also an excellent tonic for increasing general well-being and mental tiredness.
  • Pine bark extract, believed to increase the body's production of nitric oxide, a chemical involved in male sexual response.
  • Pumpkin seed Supports prostate health and hormonal production.
  • Sarsaparilla (Smilax ornate) has diuretic and restorative properties and may help in the treatment of infertility, impotence and infertility.
  • Swedish flower pollen, which is frequently held to support proper prostate function and to provide micro-nutrients essential for healthy reproductive systems.
  • Tribulus terrestris, a herb that shows remarkable qualities in naturally increasing the level of luteinizing hormone levels, thereby improving the manufacture of testosterone in the body - an increase of up to 30 per cent is claimed.
  • Vitamin E. Our reproductive and sexual health is regulated by hormones whose metabolism is dependent on nutrients including B vitamins. Erectile function may be helped by using forms of Vitamin E
  • Zinc Oxide has been shown to increase the number of sperm and sperm motility by 80 per cent to 200 per cent by aiding testosterone synthesis.
  • Zinc Aspartate. Zinc is essential for development and proper functioning of the reproductive organs and normal functioning of the prostate gland. Zinc deficiency can lead to reduced numbers of sperm and impotence in men, although the correlation between blood levels of zinc and sperm quality remains controversial. Reportedly, infertile men have lower levels of zinc in their semen, than men with normal fertility.
